Family Mediation Training Domestic violence should not happen to anybody. Ever. Period. But it does and its everyone’s problem. The Community Mediation Center, Hampton Roads’ only non-profit mediation center, is offering a Domestic Violence in Mediation workshop Saturday June 7, 2008 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The workshop will be held at the center’s office on 586 Virginian Dr., Norfolk. The class will cover power and control issues, screening for mediation, assessing, protection, and intervention. The class will also review resources and services available to victims. This is a required class for those wishing to be certified family mediators, but all are invited to attend. Domestic Violence and Mediation Training is facilitated by Kathleen McKee and Martha Sorenson. Kathleen McKee, Esq. is a certified mediator and professor at Regent University School of Law and Martha Sorenson is a certified family mediator and mentor. The training cost is $130 (lunch included) for those becoming certified and for social service agencies that deal with issues of domestic violence. The cost for certified United Way agencies is only $10 to cover the cost of lunch. Registration is limited, so register early.
